Day 325: Reykjavik and Viking Festival

प्रकाशित: 12.07.2024

Today I met up with Krisztina, an Au pair from Hungary, for a trip to Reykjavik.

At ten o'clock, I left the farm, arrived at her place by eleven as I picked her up on the way, and then we were in Reykjavik by around twelve.

First, we went to the Rainbow Road since our parking was right next to it. Then we visited Hallgrímskirkja. Since she hadn't been in Iceland for long, we mostly did touristy things. After that, we found a cute crepe shop where we took a little break. We had to wait a while for the crepes, but it was definitely worth it. They were really delicious and the seller was really nice and chatted with us on the side.

When our parking ticket expired, we drove straight to Hafnafjörður because there was a Viking Festival over the weekend.

The festival took place right next to the campsite on a large field. The individual stands were really beautiful and cute. After looking around, I bought a ring. Krisztina was thinking about buying a necklace but ended up deciding against it.

Then there were jousting games, which were really cool to watch. Even though the story was performed in Icelandic before, we could understand a lot without knowing the words. It was about two different clans fighting to win the favor of a daughter.

After the adults were done, even the kids were allowed into the fenced-off area to practice. Totally adorable.

Later on, there was also a magician who was interesting not only for the kids. He made jokes like: Since Vikings rarely shower, he showered with fire. And then he actually did it.

Archery was a must for me. Even though I didn't hit particularly well, it was really fun.

At five, we drove back and had dinner in Selfoss.

Until then

Julia
