Day 6 Ski, sun and party-hungry Norwegians in Levi

Day 6

27.3.2024

The weather forecast for today is mixed, but we have learned over the last two days that the weather up here can change hourly and does not necessarily stick to the forecasts of the weather apps.

Heavy snowfall was actually forecast, until 3pm today. When I look outside I see a small layer of powdered sugar on the car. Wow, that was a huge snowfall??? Instead the sun is shining. Perfect, let's go!

It has become noticeably warmer. The thermometer only says -13 degrees, and the trend is rising.

The slopes are in fantastic condition and our son discovers the Fun Park/Kids Park with its huge ramps and jumps. We spend the whole morning and afternoon skiing at South Point and West Point, as there are chairlifts there (yes, sitting down in between can be sooo nice 😅), then we go back to our favorite hut Sivakka for lunch. There are veggie burgers again. As the weather is so great, we only stay for a short time and decide to stop at another hut in the afternoon for a coffee.

We hand over our table with a view of the sun terrace to an Italian dad with two small children. It's crazy where all the people come from to ski in Finland!

We saw a lot of Spaniards, although they were more into winter hiking. There were a lot of German families in the ski area, and we met a lot of French and Dutch people. Now Italians too.

According to the weather forecast, it's supposed to snow from 3 p.m.... Hmm...currently blue skies and sunshine. A look at the app shows that the forecast has completely changed, now it's only supposed to snow tonight - and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow until 10 p.m. all day. Oh no, not on Friday. We want to go on a trip then 😱 Well, we'll wait and see if it actually stays that way. It wasn't right today either.

We spend the afternoon at the Gondola and Westpoint and then drive back towards Zero Point via South Point and the Hissi no. 7-6-5. Up here on the mountain there is the hut/viewing restaurant TUIKKU with a panoramic terrace and umbrella. It smiles at us. While a group of snowmobiles crosses the piste and also drives to the hut, we see a road that leads cars up here. OK, this is a meeting point for non-skiers too. There are rows of snowmobiles in front of the hut, the umbrella is firmly in the hands of a group of excursionists.

Wow, getting up here on snowmobiles? Must be a challenge...

When I look at the hot sleds, I can hardly imagine sitting on one of these machines on Friday (we also booked a snowmobile tour).

We go up the stairs to the entrance and our hopes of a piece of cake and coffee are dashed at the first sounds of DJ Ötzi's "Sweet Caroline". It's an apres ski party in the hut!!! The schnapps comes "by the meter", the Lonkero and beer from the liter carafe 😱 People sing and shout, sitting, standing, on the chairs and tables. Wow, the Finns know apres ski 😜

We find three places at a table with a group of Norwegians who love to sing. When asked why Norwegians go to Finland to ski, the answer is clear:

"Better après ski, more party and cheaper!"

😅😅😅

After a coffee and a sugar donut, we leave the party hut again and do a few more runs until 5:30 p.m.

Since the après ski party only lasts until 6 p.m., it's cancelled for us today.

The weather was just too good to go to the apres ski. Maybe tomorrow again, we'll see 🥳
