Ayutthaya really captured our hearts. It started with a fantastic 1-star hotel (Baan Are Gong Riverside Honestay) (no irony intended) from the moment we arrived. Right by the river, super clean & the rooms are simply beautiful. There were also a few nice bars around the corner. Unfortunately, we had to change accommodation for the second night, which we regretted even more when we arrived in the room. (See pictures) We didn't voluntarily choose this accommodation and we also believe that it wasn't an official one. Well, it was okay for one night...
But our reason for going to Ayutthaya was different. Ayutthaya is known for its temples and palaces. So: being a tourist to the fullest :-)
To get to the old town and see all the sights, we had to cross the Chao Phraya River on a raft, as the old town is almost completely surrounded by water and it's (almost) the only way for pedestrians to get to the other side.
To see all the temples, we rented bikes and also got to experience the Thai traffic. This ended with a ride on a 6-lane main road (not recommended!) Well, but we made it out and were able to visit the night market of Ayutthaya, where we had our first taste of the different street food - which surprisingly tasted very good...
