After a long break, our adventure trip continues. If you want, spread the word that new reports and pictures are being uploaded now.
On the way back to South America, we took a bite out of the big, but not sour apple, even though in America apple is more associated with iPhones than with fruit. We had six exhausting and exciting days with a total of 22 activities + food + hours of subway riding. We won't list them all individually, but there are many nice pictures to give you an idea.
It's obvious that Willem is having a great time here, because NYC is packed with architecture, art, and scene. And food. Starbucks too, but we didn't use it. But what did WE do first when we emerged from the underground and saw all the big buildings? Of course, we went to the churches! St. Thomas and St. Patrick are also very nice. And they don't cost anything. Besides that, there are skyscrapers from all eras of skyscraper history that are worth admiring, especially when you're standing right in front of them and looking up. For example, there's the Flatiron (1902), the Empire State Building (1931, interesting both day and night), the Mies van der Rohe (1958), the Twin Towers (1971, only the footprint remains), the One World Trade Center (2014), and the Herzog & de Meuron building (2016). You can get apartments in the latter for the bargain price of 42 million dollars.
A lowered highlight is the High Line, an old elevated railway track that has been transformed into a fantastic park through the high-rise canyons. Of course, the tourist magnet Statue of Liberty and the consumer-hell Times Square could not be missed. Eating a delicious burger in between is mandatory. But you can also educate yourself culturally: 4 hours in the Museum of Modern Art and another 2 hours in the Guggenheim Museum on the same day (according to Willem, the most beautiful building in the city) not only filled our heads, but also made our stomachs hungry and our limbs heavy.
If you want to experience trendy NYC, go to Soho in Manhattan or to Williamsburg in Brooklyn, where hipsters study art books in converted shipping containers with a disposable cup of vegan hazelnut-flavored frappuccino topped with chia seeds and sugar sticks, listening to trendy house music. Throw away? Yes, please, as long as it's trendy! Get a dishwasher? Why, this whole water consumption is so ecologically unfriendly. These must be the thoughts of all middle-class restaurant owners in order to compensate for the many lift boys.
As great as New York is, WE are glad to be back in SOUTH America, especially because of the authenticity. Still - awesome city.
