 13.10.2018 9days at billabong sanctuary

                          A rainy day

This morning it was still raining, I got up, dressed anf went down to get my breakfast. However, not like the other days the kitchen was still closed. Usually they open it at 6am but today it was dark. I walked around to find someone but there was nobody at the desk either.

At around 6:30 a very hungover still half asleep dude made his way down the stairs. He walked to the kitchen mumbeld something like 'sorry mate' and unlocked it. I sprinted inside and got my breakfast ready as fast as possible. Though I noticed my cornflakes were gone. Nit just that but my food bag with my cornflakes, bread, cookies was gone. After looking around for a bit I found it.....in the trash......

Well after this the day could only get better.

I brushed my teeth and waited outside for kim, though I turned around again for my rain jacket since I was getting pretty wet. Timmi seemed quite excited about the rain. In the sanctuary we started cleaning and raking the bird, dingo and paddymelon enclosure.

After that I cleaned the rest of the bird enclosures which is always fun with little rainbow lorikeet. My next task was cleaning the chicken cage. We got some new chickens, however there were a few roosters there and one of them was not afraid to take me on. With his beak and me keeping him at bay with my boot.

It took some time but eventually he left me alone. But while cleaning I saw him sneaking up behind me and making a deadly attack against my butt since I was currently kneeling on the ground cleaning the water bowl. So I turned the hose on 'full' and unleashed a roaring stream of water against his side. That scared him enough to leave me alone. But he would keep walking beside me with some distance making sure to keep an eye on me.

For lunch we had sandwiches with some left over chips. I hope the kitchen keeps messing up with their portions😁.

I had to give the chickens some food and went in armed with a shovel. However I did not get attacked and looking around I couldnt see the rooster. Then I remembered the reason why we have the chickens.... 🐊'Munch'

I went to collect the garbage around the park and later got tasked with another volunteer to clean one of the baby crocodile enclosures. Which took forever since it had water in it and the drain got stuck the moment we opened it. So we had to get the water out with buckets and get the drain working again. The day was thankfully still very cloudy and a little cooler.

Towards the end I helped clean in the reptile enclosure. Here I met the constricter snake 'Brutus' and she was very beautiful. Also she had no problem wraping her entire body around me pretty quickly. I was just glad she had already been fed today.

Timmi was very tired on the way back, me aswell. I didnt get out by the hostel but directly by the shopping center to get some new cornflakes and other things. I sprinted the way to the hostel since the rain had picked up once again.

Spending the evening at the hostel I got one of my insta-meals and a few ribs! Because someone had left a free food plate with some leftover ribs and I would never say no to ribs. They tasted pretty bad and overcooked but hey... ribs are ribs🤷🏻‍♂️.

Still parts of my dinner between my teeth I went to bed for today. Goodnight 9days at billabong sanctuary

I prepared some fish for the turtle show and fed the rest to the wild turtles. There were a lot of them since the rainy wetter inspired them to leave the pond and lay their eggs.
