Good morning 😊 - just a quick breakfast, as we want to cover a longer distance by car today.

However, just after a few meters, a long train stops us, standing right where we want to cross the tracks. We see these freight trains parallel to the highway several times today - usually 1 to 3 kilometers long, we estimate 😳 Sometimes the containers are even stacked double on one wagon! From a distance, it still looks like a miniature wonderland 😅

Today it’s significantly sunnier, so Highway 1 in Banff is also busier.

Our first stop: Johnston Canyon. It is veeeery crowded, traffic jam in the parking lot and on the hiking trail to the waterfall...🫣 It feels like waiting in line for Colossos in Heide Park😅 Our conclusion while we stand in line and chat with a couple from England: The waterfall is 'ok', but it wasn’t really worth the long wait just for a photo 🤷‍♀️ This is really just for tourists here... But we do see a posing chipmunk again.🥰

We take a break at Bow River at Morant's Curve for lunch with a mega view and fantastic (!) salad (including blueberries, strawberries, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and nachos😅). It’s amazing what you can whip up on the road.

Next, we head west towards Revelstoke - always towards the sun. There we want to make a second attempt to drive over the 'Meadows in the sky' to Mount Revelstoke. Just before Revelstoke, Eddi manages to achieve a consumption rate of 9.4 l/100km 💪 We picked him up in Vancouver with 15. They say big cars consume so much fuel 😅

This time it's significantly emptier at Mount Revelstoke. It’s 25km of winding roads uphill - Melly is having fun!🚀

At almost 2000m (6900ft), there’s a fantastic view in all directions, including over the Columbia River. A sea of flowers stretches around a tiny mountain lake. At the summit, which can only be reached on foot, stands a small historic fire cabin. On the way back to the car, we find the funny comfortable red wooden chairs again. And all the winding roads have to be driven back down, of course 😉

We drive the rest of the way to the eastern shore of Shuswap Lake at the entrance of Sicamous. The sun shows itself again with all its energy over the sparkling lakes. Just before reaching the next AirBnB accommodation, a deer crosses our path in the distance.

Here, we have a suuuuper cute log cabin with two Swiss hosts 🥰 And there’s really nothing we’re missing! We can even wash our clothes tomorrow 😅 Ruedi and Vreny are very warm and it’s easy to have a conversation with them. They also have some great insider tips for us.

Tomorrow we want to have a veeeeery relaxed rest day 😊
