Wow! Two days have already passed. Time flies! Two beautiful days in Wanaka are coming to an end and we are truly sad that we can't stay a little longer in this sweet village by the lake.

But let's start with our journey from Franz Josef to Wanaka:

03/09/2018: We got on the bus early in the morning as we had a few stops on the way to Wanaka. The first stop was Lake Matheson, an incredibly beautiful lake that reflects its surroundings like a mirror due to its smooth surface. The whole area there was beautiful - especially with the morning mist hanging over the lake and meadows.

The rest of the bus ride was very picturesque. We passed by many lakes and mountains and occasionally got off the bus to admire the nature peacefully.

When we arrived in Wanaka around 4 pm, we poor (rich) backpackers had to carry our heavy luggage to our accommodation because instead of staying at the hostel suggested by our bus company, we were staying in an Airbnb, which is a private accommodation.
Since the hostel was right in the town center, we were quite annoyed that we decided against it and had to carry our luggage so far (and uphill!!). 😄 But our accommodation and the view made up for it. We were sooo lucky and very excited. We had a room with a private bathroom and balcony in the house of an older lady whose children had already moved out. Joan was super nice and we felt very comfortable! There was also a Canadian couple staying with her, who promptly invited us to Canada after our nice evening conversations. So our next travel destination is already planned! 😄♥️ Here are some photos of our room and the view from the balcony:

Sweet little Wanaka! ♥️ We only went to the center in the evening to do some shopping and have a beer by the lake with some New Zealanders, otherwise we cooked dinner ourselves and had a really nice conversation with Joan, Marilyn, and Joe.
Joan's house is basically on a hill next to the lake, which you have to cross to get to the center. From there, you have a really beautiful view of Wanaka:
That was a really beautiful day!!! ♥️
03/10/2018: On Saturday, after a looong breakfast on Joan's veranda and a play session with Skye, her dog, we borrowed her bicycles and explored Wanaka all day long. By the way, you can also see the mountains from the kitchen.. this is how I want to cook all the time! 😄

We rode bicycles all day long in Wanaka and Skye is such a sweet dog. I was especially happy about this animal company because I miss our Bielke so much! 😍 Here are more impressions of our bike ride in Wanaka:

Imagine living there. Just like that, next to a lake with those mountains in the background. Incredible!
We will continue to Queenstown tomorrow, where another highlight (Milford Sound) awaits us. Stay tuned!
Best regards, Sina and Karo ♥️
