We have heard very different opinions about the Colombian Caribbean coast from other travelers. What is certain is that it is very hot there and you need a good mosquito repellent. However, since we do not plan to have a beach vacation there, we are not influenced by the mixed impressions of others - Cuba and Mexico remain unbeatable for us when it comes to beaches. We board the bus at 6:30 in the morning in Medellin and leave it again after 16 (!) hours in tropical Cartagena.
New city, new taxi to the accommodation. This time we drive for a long time through extremely neglected and dirty suburbs. The difference between the suburbs and the city center is absolutely extreme here, as we later find out. However, our hostel is very nice - we feel very comfortable in the Mama Waldy Hostel and extend our stay there the next day.
Cartagena invites you to stroll through its old town alleys and charms with colorful and flower-decorated colonial houses. Here we spend very relaxed days, enjoy the local cuisine and explore the Barrio Getsemani, where the small main square is busy in the evenings. Singers, dancers and acrobats show off their skills here, while young and old gather on the little walls and benches in front of the church. There is also a street food stand here with very tasty burgers - right up Sebastian's alley.
