Day 28: Without electricity in the day ...

Нийтэлсэн: 06.06.2018

Today's Wednesday started a little different than usual days ...

When I tried to wake Jakob up by turning on the ceiling lights, they didn't work. The bathroom lights also remained off despite repeated button presses ... the power was out. However, thanks to the gas stove, we were still able to make coffee and with the help of our flashlights and juice jugs, we didn't have to have breakfast in the dark. So NamPower (the Namibian electricity provider) gave us a very romantic breakfast by the glow of the juice jugs ...

Afterwards, with the assistance of flashlights and laptop displays, we proceeded to finish the billing and contracts from the previous day. Then Sylvia, Abel, and I went to the cattle pasture together. There, the newborn calves (only a few days old) were to be weighed and marked with ear tags, and their information recorded in the herd list. With only 30kg on the scale, it will definitely be a few more months until they are fully grown. Once we were done, it was time for lunch ...

In the afternoon, we had a few more smaller tasks to do before we started another attempt at hunting guinea fowl at around 5:00 p.m. With Sylvia behind the wheel, we kept an eye out for the birds on both sides of the road. When we finally found one of the "herds", our little excursion quickly came to an end. The first shot missed narrowly, and when we tried to follow the fleeing group of scared guinea fowl, the car failed. The starter motor, which was already experimentally installed (to start the car, you have to first use a remote control and then a second ignition key in addition to the "normal" key), failed definitively. Fortunately, Karsten was nearby with the dogs, so with his help we were able to push-start the car. Nevertheless, we made our way back to the farm afterwards...

... the dogs were all there.

When we arrived back at the farm, as usual, there was something to eat and then we went to bed, warm and cozy.
