Approved for adoption

Here in the USA, you can adopt a piece of highway. We would take the stretch of Highway 101 between Florence and Waldport in the state of Oregon. The coastal route is unique and alternates between forests, fjords, and dune landscapes. You want to constantly stop to take pictures.

The adoption has a catch. The adoptive parents must ensure that the piece of highway stays clean. Our budget is not enough for that anymore, even at minimum wage. So we'll only take the pictures.

Along the way, we see a lot of pre-war vintage cars. We find the one in the picture particularly beautiful. It's a Ford Model T and the early pickup seems to still be used daily.

We stop in Port Orford. In our search for a nice piece of pie, we are sent from place to place. The last recommendation seems a bit strange. The crazy Norwegians are known for fish and chips, but they also have the tastiest cakes of our whole tour. And they have a sense of humor too.

Back on the road, a moment of shock: a police siren wails behind us. Flashing lights. Were we going too fast? Is the drain hose still hanging out, spreading blue liquid all over the road? Do we have to put our hands on the roof of the car and spread our legs wide?

It's not meant for us at all. The police car overtakes us and we catch up with it three minutes later. There has been an accident. A pickup truck is lying on its side in the woods, with its nose facing the road. The driver sits absentmindedly in the grass, dusting off his pants. Did the GPS demand: 'Make a U-turn if possible'?

Our campsite of the day is right by the sea and we take the last picture during a beach walk.
