16./17.05. In Kakadu National Park

We stayed in Jabiru in Kakadu National Park for two days. This is a little further inland. The land belongs to the Aborigines and there are special rules. For example, alcohol cannot be sold. Jabiru is a small town that only exists because there is a larger mine there. In addition to a supermarket and a petrol station, there is almost only one larger hotel. The national park is supposed to be very beautiful, including impressive waterfalls. We were just here too early in the year. Most of the roads are still impassable after the rainy season. So we could only do a minimal program. We visited the rock paintings in Ubirr, which are protected as a World Heritage Site. With an Aboriginal guide, we went crocodile watching again, this time on the East Alligator River.

Our accommodation was the 'Anbinik Resort', a campsite with a few better cabins, one of which we stayed in. During my nightly inspection, I also discovered a fat beetle (3x4 cm), which we named Karl, who also lived in our cabin. Unfortunately, he escaped when we tried to catch him. Sleeping well is different...
