Tag 4: Golden Circle Tour

Нийтэлсэн: 30.07.2023

Today, the Golden Circle Tour was on the agenda, so I got up at 8 o'clock in the morning to catch the bus at 9 o'clock. I had to eat breakfast while walking.

First, after half an hour, we made a toilet and breakfast stop in a small town where the bus stopped directly at a supermarket with a bakery.

After another 10 minutes drive, we arrived at Kerið Crater. Kerið is an extinct volcano that collapsed thousands of years ago and over time a lake formed in it. We had half an hour to explore there. You could walk along the crater rim and along the lake below. I walked along the top first and then after about twenty minutes, I thought it would be a good idea to also walk around the lake. I had to run back to the bus at the end to not be late.

On the drive afterwards, the bus had to stop and no one really knew why. Until the first person saw the horses. Some guy was sitting at the back on a horse and drove his whole herd in front of him and along the whole road. We only had to stand for barely five minutes, but it was really funny. In the end, the tour guide dryly said that everything was OBVIOUSLY planned and organized just for us.

As an extra stop - because we left everywhere on time - we stopped at a small canyon at around half past twelve.

Then at almost one o'clock we went to the Gullfos waterfall. That was really huge, but we got a little wet in some places.

There was another extra stop at a big horse farm. The owner was apparently a friend of our tour guide, so we were allowed to stroke the three horses and feed them treats. Although any passer-by tourist could have stroked these three horses, unlike most other horses in Iceland, they were vaccinated against all sorts of things.

After that, at a quarter past two, we had a lunch break at the geysers. On the right side of the road was the geyser field and on the left was a restaurant with a souvenir shop. The herb potatoes that the bus driver recommended to us were really delicious. After half an hour, I went to the geyser field and was able to film two eruptions there.

At half past four, we made another stop there where the tectonic plates meet and we could walk through it. That was really impressive. And the view from the platform was also incredibly beautiful.

Then we went back to Reykjavik. All in all, the tour was really nice. We saw a lot and were back home for dinner. It was also cool that we had a time when we had to be back on the bus, but we could manage our time as we wanted.

In the evening, I went out for pizza with the girl from Germany and we had a really beautiful sunset. Then on the way back, we passed a shop that had Greek donuts. We were curious and tried them. They are like small, deep-fried quark balls, with topping of your choice. We had chocolate filling with white chocolate sauce. Absolutely delicious stuff!!! But absolutely heavy. There were maybe eight balls in the bowl, and the two of us barely managed to finish them.

So it was a tiring but eventful day.

See you later
