Day 1 and 2

On Friday morning, after a great breakfast in Bo Kaap - Cape Town, we set off for the southernmost point of South Africa, also known as Cape Agulhas. It took us about three hours to get there. There isn't much to see at Cape Agulhas except for an old lighthouse and the point where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.

After that, we made our way to our Airbnb apartment, which was only three-quarters of an hour away.

It was a really cute little accommodation where we immediately felt at home.

This morning, we packed our things and headed to a nature reserve called De Hoop, where there are huge white sand dunes right on the coast.

However, we didn't expect that the road there would lead through nowhere. There was nothing to see except for fields and sheep. The road can be better described as a dirt road and it took about 50 km to reach the entrance of the reserve.

What we also didn't know was that we wouldn't pass any gas stations along the way, so when we reached the entrance of the reserve, we had exactly 18 km of range left until our tank was empty.

The woman at the entrance of the reserve didn't have electricity or a working phone, so we couldn't call the ADAC or get help.

The nearest gas station was 10 km away, so we took the risk and tried to get there.

When we arrived at the gas station, we found out that it had been closed for half an hour. The next gas station was now 18 km away and according to the fuel gauge, we had a range of exactly 5 km. Luckily, a young German couple drove past us and followed us in case we couldn't make it to the next gas station.

Despite the empty tank, we actually made it and could now drive back to the dunes in the reserve with a full tank.

The view was gigantic, we hadn't seen anything like it in our time in South Africa.

After a short break at the dunes, we made our way back to our next accommodation in Knysna, which is about 4 hours away.

Here too, we were lucky and found a great Airbnb accommodation where we will be staying for the next two nights.
