Last Saturday we started after the obligatory visit to the scales (8.42 t including the car trailer 😱) and first of all there were 3 days of visiting the trade fair: CARAVAN Salon in Düsseldorf, or, as my colleague would say: "Camper's Christmas" 🤣. And there is some truth to this statement. The world's largest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans takes place every year from the last weekend in August to the first weekend in September, and here you can see and get everything your camper heart desires in about 15 exhibition halls.
During this time, the P1 car park transforms into Europe's largest parking space with up to 3,500 vehicles per day, including a marquee and everything else. Just taking a walk around the site is already half of the fair experience. Here you can see huge luxury liners next to ancient mini caravans and the atmosphere is relaxed and cheerful. People sit in front of their vehicles and barbecue or have a glass of wine in the evening, while from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. every few minutes planes thunder past almost within reach, as P1 is located exactly in the approach path of Düsseldorf Airport 🤣
For us, the trade fair has been a fixed item on the agenda for years and we always combine it with a visit to dear friends and as a meeting place with old acquaintances. The fair usually ends up being expensive, because you always find something. This year we had an additional lock installed, the "Multianker" awning brackets ended up in the shopping basket, as well as a new grill and a quilted vest. Suddenly, our holiday budget was 900 € lighter 😅.
Although the industry is currently booming, the fair didn't seem particularly crowded to us this time, but that can be deceptive. The photo was taken on Monday evening when many had already departed. Before that, our ranks were also well occupied.
