Mae Hong Son and a cave hike

Things can't get any worse. After climbing a waterfall and hiking through the jungle for 6 hours, I'm confident. Nothing can shock me anymore and I form my own opinion.
If a Thai says to you that the food isn't spicy, you're guaranteed to burn your mouth 🤪if a Thai says it's safe to climb the waterfall, some people have probably lost their lives 😬if a Thai says you you can keep your flip flops on while you visit a cave... Stop, I'll be paying attention now at the latest and, just in case, I'll put on my white-washed sneakers again.
Aaaand…… action! Armed with a gas lamp from the last century, we hike through the stalactite cave. It glitters wherever the light of the lamp falls. There is no mass tourism here. It goes over hill and dale. We cross bamboo bridges and have to climb steep stairs again. And to give the whole thing a touch of adventure, these are quite narrow and have lots of sand and here and there a nail sticks out of the wood. Bee almost loses her flip flops. I think that sometimes you have to make sacrifices. JohnBoy rappels down in time. Great, I think, now we are alone with the guide, a woman in her 70s who doesn't speak English. 🙄 I'm just imagining what would happen if the lamp gave up, it would then be pitch black and we would never be able to find our way out again, or if the woman suffered a faint attack because it was very humid in the cave and we had to use a lot of stairs have climbed. She is very short of breath in these moments. After seemingly endless minutes we reach a lake in the middle of the cave. Now we board a bamboo raft. It doesn't seem too stable, but we have no choice to get to the next cave. Above us there are a lot of bats 🦇flying back and forth excitedly. In the last cave there is a strong smell of their excrement. The next moment, thank God, it gets brighter and we can see the exit.
Done and happy to have completed another stage on our tour, we now move on to Mae Hong Song. Our hotel is located in the middle of the jungle. Unfortunately that was it. The hotel seems to have had its best days behind it. It doesn't help much when we are proudly shown photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who supposedly spent the night here with their entire group of children. The boy, I assume his name is “John” again, 😂 helps us carry our suitcases. Bee is horrified at how he handles her suitcase. However, he smiles and doesn't let himself be dissuaded from wearing it for her and ends up ruining it. 🤪Afterwards we go to the pool to refresh. There are two of them. One for Bee 🐝 and one for me, I try to explain to the boy and he smiles again. Yes, everything works better with humor. At the pool we meet Theresa & Mike from Canada. Two young people who have been to Thailand several times and give us good tips for our next trip, maybe. Afterwards we meet for a drink over dinner. It's Women's Day after all 🪷 and so it will be a fun evening that will make us forget our tiredness and hopefully improve our English.

Realization after this stay: Never in this hotel again, but heh - we once spent the night in the jungle.
