AIDA Western Mediterranean
In Cagliari, the ship stayed in the port from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Even before the trip, we booked a bike excursion to the beach through Aida. Two days before, the bike route was changed, and we quickly agreed to use this as an opportunity to cancel the reservation. Tired from previous experiences, a quiet day at the beach with an easy journey seemed like the better alternative to us.
We took advantage of the late arrival at the port to have a relaxed breakfast and then read our literature on deck five in the cool breeze.
Immediately after the ship docked, we took the shuttle within the container area out of the port. We wanted to make it really easy for ourselves, found two other passengers, and took a taxi to the beach. The taxi driver made us a suggestion that we liked, so we went to the Poetto beach to visit the Emerson Beach club. A good decision. There is a nice restaurant, comfortable sunbeds, changing cabins, and everything is nice and clean.
There is nothing more to report for the next 4-5 hours except that we alternated between relaxing on the sunbeds or cooling off in the water.
The beach was well visited, especially after 3:00 PM. It felt like we were among many locals or Italian vacationers. The white/yellow Aida towels were very rarely seen. We only realized how crowded the beach actually was on the way back in the public bus. As we boarded, we thought there would be no more room. But there were still some stops with beachgoers heading towards the city who either squeezed onto the bus or had to wait for the next one. Overcrowded and hot, we could hardly wait for the bus ride to end. We didn't get off at the port, but in the city. Our friends strolled through the streets of Cagliari while I went back to the ship, not without stopping at an ice cream parlor again.
In the harbor, there was a beautiful large yacht. During his evening speech, the captain told us that he had gathered information about the owner (a sheikh) and the construction costs. The construction costs for the ship amounted to 600 million euros, compared to the construction of the Aida which only cost 380 million euros.
Conclusion: after long exhausting days, the right time for a day at the beach. The beach is clean but also well-filled and easy to reach. Clear, turquoise water.
Cost: five euros per person for the taxi with a five-person occupancy, 30.00 euros for an umbrella and two sunbeds, the return trip was free because the ticket machine on the bus was not accessible.
Tips: if you want to take public transportation, you should go to the far area of the beach. The buses pick up along the beach. If you are close to the city, it can happen that the buses can no longer take anyone.
