To Port Arthur

After our visit to the museum, we went to the hospital so Simone could get her 2nd infusion, luckily everything went well. In the evening, we picked up Simon from Canada at the airport. Simone met him last year during her exchange in Canada and since he was in Tasmania at the same time, we spent the next few days together.

So the three of us headed to Tasman Peninsula, a region in the east of Hobart. We would spend 2 days there.

With not so good weather, I think only about 5° rain and wind, we set off for Remarkable Cave, a cave that leads directly to the sea, a great view.

Cape Hauy

After a good breakfast, despite the weather, it rained but seemed to get better, we decided to do the hike to Cape Hauy in Tasman National Park, which was planned for the next day, on the first day. The 8 km long track with a 4-hour round trip is described and there were millions of stairs along the way, but the actual count was 18,000 stairs and it was so worth it, the view at the end is one of the highlights of this whole trip, simply unbelievably beautiful. We were so lucky, when we started it was raining and I thought we would hike in the rain for 4 hours, but after only 30 minutes, the rain clouds disappeared and it became really nice and warm, perfect for walking, typical Tasmanian weather...

After the hike, we checked into our room in a car park not far from the beach, so I decided to enjoy the well-deserved cider alone on the beach. With music in my ears, I danced on the deserted beach and was simply happy, another great day on our incredible mega trip!!!

But the day wasn't over yet, because we had booked a ghost tour in the old prison of Port Arthur. The tour started after sunset in the historic square. Armed with lanterns, we went on a ghost hunt where our guide told us a lot about the prison and its inhabitants and he told us about the numerous ghost sightings that are supposed to happen here. Unfortunately, we didn't see any ghosts that evening 😉😅

Lavender

For breakfast the next day, we chose the nearby lavender farm, which is currently in full bloom, such a great sight with those purple fields!! Of course, we had to eat and drink lavender there, for example, there was lavender hot chocolate and pancakes with lavender ice cream, and eggs with bacon with lavender chutney, everything tasted very interesting.

Afterward, a beach was on the list that Emilia called a secret tip, as only locals could find it. It wasn't easy to find, but the half-hour walk through the undergrowth was so worth it. In front of us, there was a pile of sand dunes and behind them was this beautiful secluded beach. After a moment of panic when I almost sank my new drone into the sea (stupid wind), we could really enjoy the moment with a beer/cider in hand.

We continued to various viewpoints and waterholes before heading back to Hobart, as we really wanted to visit the Franklin's Market - a food market with various Tasmanian delicacies - in the evening.
