Hello dear ones,
As you know, we are Christina and Martin and we decided about a year ago to go on a world trip :)... this somewhat impersonal opening sentence is for all strangers who are on vakantio.de and discover our hopefully wonderful blog.
How did we start:
At the beginning, we had no plan at all. Then we told some friends about our plans and lo and behold, we are not the first crazies on this planet (Greetings to Laura and Julian
Eventually, we came to the decision that it would be wise to book the initial flight soon. After an unsuccessful search for the best flight connection on the internet and on skyscanner, we decided to go to the travel agency (sta Travel is highly recommended for such a trip and in general :)) There we were lucky to be assigned a very likeable and understanding contact person who understood our wishes. After the first 10 minutes of the consultation, it was clear that we had no plan at all and started very naively - small insert: 'You want to go to Central and South America, what are your Spanish skills like?'... you can guess the answer :D
The next day we signed up for a Spanish course, which was generally fun, but you will find out how good our Spanish is throughout the blog :D
After booking the initial flight and setting a rough travel route at the travel agency, we had to deal with general things. Insurances, dissolve apartment or not, read other people's experiences, browse blogs, work through travel guides, and so on and so forth... the theory sounds sooo great.
In practice, on the other hand, there were constantly more question marks in our heads :D
Well, we can say that we arranged everything, going into more detail is probably tiring for you and for us. But feel free to ask us for more information.
So we took out all the necessary insurances before we left, had enough credit cards in our pocket, secured all important documents and also bought the remaining missing equipment.
As the departure date approached, we gradually sold and dissolved our apartment. We were kindly allowed to store the last remaining things at our parents' place (thank you very much for that :**) It is also worth mentioning that our friends pulled out all the stops to lead us on and not tell us the whole truth for weeks. There was even a very funny surprise party, which definitely deserved the emphasis on surprise. They all fooled us :D They even made a special presentation for us, which touched us a lot (thank you very much for the surprise and the efforts
However, since we did not expect the mentioned surprise party and of course wanted to say a proper goodbye to all our loved ones in our immediate environment, there was a really lively and long farewell party where we really let the corks pop :)
Lastly, it should be mentioned that before leaving, each of us was able to take a week of vacation in our hometown, there was a very nice final dinner with close family members, and then on April 9th, we all met at the check-in counter :)
The farewell was very sad and beautiful at the same time, but unfortunately just as predictable.
By now, we have landed in Toronto (Canada), but more on that in the next blog :)
I hope you had fun reading, feel free to give some feedback :))
Very, very best regards - Christina & Martin
