Couchsurfing in Salvador

Let's go to the fourth largest city in Brazil: Salvador. Instead of staying in a hostel, this time we stayed with a guy who offered himself as a host on the internet platform "Couchsurfing". We were able to stay in his apartment in a student dormitory. It was a great opportunity for us to get an insight into student life in Brazil.

Our host Jeferson took a lot of time to show us the Brazilian culture, music and of course the city of Salvador in three days. Sightseeing with a local was perfect. Not only did he know the most beautiful hidden places, but he also knew the best restaurants, bars, and had numerous tips for us. We especially liked the historic center with its many churches, colorful houses, and handicraft shops.

In the evening, we went to concerts, Samba and Sala parties, and experienced the nightlife in the city. Watching Brazilians dance, we couldn't help but be amazed. We knew they had rhythm in their blood, but it was truly impressive. Everyone dances with everyone, regardless of age, with a lot of joy, fun, and hip movement. Even people over 60 easily outdanced us.

We really enjoyed spending time with a local. We learned a lot about Brazil and the behavior of its people. Jeferson grew up in a favela, so he could tell us a lot about his childhood. We were also amazed by the Brazilian social system. Jeferson's dormitory is specifically aimed at students from poor backgrounds. They live there for free and also get three meals a day. The private beach right in the residence was a nice touch that we also enjoyed.

On the last evening, we went to the beach for sunset. On a hill with a lighthouse, hundreds of locals and tourists gathered. It is the most famous and popular place to watch the sunset. We joined the crowd. Two men played drums and guitar, and the people around them sang along. What a magical moment.

Three knots for three wishes: Travelers cannot pass by the famous bracelets "Fitinhas" in front of the church Senhor Bom Jesus do Bofim.

The streets full of music and good mood.

One of the many beautiful beaches ...

The golden church São Francisco.

Capoeira in the streets of Salvador.

We're waiting for the sunset.
