Always do your best

Always do your best... Haz siempre lo máximo que puedas.

This is one of the four agreements from The Four Agreements, a book I found in Alex's small bookshelf yesterday. The phrase may seem obvious, but if we're honest, we don't always live by it.

How often do we get distracted and give in to temptations that make us momentarily happy but don't contribute to our goals? The phrase also raises the question of whether the ladder we're on is really in the right place. Does it make sense to move the ladder to another place to truly bring our best into the world?

Okay, that's a lifelong task. And it provokes a big change. And change is best started small. Because ultimately, it's about making the best of every moment. What is the best thing I can do right now? If this present moment is the most important thing there is - how can I fill this present moment with meaning? In the environment I'm in right now, and with the resources available to me right now? For myself, or for others? Then I fill every moment with meaning and live a life filled with meaningful moments.

So - that was a bit of philosophy in the morning, but being alone in the mountains gives you a lot of time to ponder existential questions ;-) and in essence, this topic fits well with the days I'm spending here. It's once again a period where old things are shed and new things are invited in.

Practically speaking, my day is filled with yoga, writing, cooking, doing laundry, and going on adventures with the van. Luckily, I also had a conversation with my neighbor yesterday, a bit of human contact is always good. Ingrid is a yoga teacher, how fitting that I started studying yoga theory again these days. That leads to an inspiring conversation. It also immediately blurs the negative experiences with her dogs that have left their marks around my house.
