Day 37: Singapore II

1st March 2019

I'm already awake at 7 o'clock, hihi. Pia also had enough sleep an hour later and we have breakfast. Then we go back to the room, where we read in our books and take a little nap, before we have to check out at 1pm. We are glad that we can leave our suitcases at the hotel, because our flight is not until after midnight! Afterwards, we treat ourselves to a massage to be able to sit quietly in the plane for 13 hours. However, the massage turns out to be a typical Thai massage, which is more torture than relaxation! Well, we are glad when it's over and then go on an exploration tour along the Singapore River, where we enjoy a refreshing drink in the humid and hot Singapore. We continue towards Downtown Core and the landmark of Singapore, the Merlion (head of a lion and body of a mermaid). Unfortunately, it is currently under renovation, but the rest of the view is even more spectacular anyway! We continue walking along the river towards Gardens by the Bay and the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel, which has the shape of a huge ship - carried by three massive towers. But before we go up there to enjoy the view of the city, we head towards a restaurant, because we are hungry and a bit exhausted after almost 3 hours of sightseeing. For the last dinner of our three-month trip, we decide on pizza at the Italian restaurant Cugini - a hit! Cozy neighborhood and the pizzeria is very authentic and typically Italian. We are the first guests in the restaurant and are welcomed like kings - at the same time served by three ladies (this not only pleases Thomas) ;-) the pizzas are also very delicious. Strengthened, we go to the 56th floor of Marina Bay Sands, where we have a breathtaking view of the Singapore skyline (similar to the beginning of our trip from the Eureka Tower in Melbourne). A worthy ending to this unforgettable journey!
