XXVII. Ass No. 3

പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു: 09.02.2017

The story of the family vacation continues. While we were frolicking at the lagoon, we were also looking for accommodation for the night - not an easy task, especially so close to New Year's Eve!

Finally, Mom found a place to stay on a farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere. There was no address, only coordinates. Sounds perfect. Book. Drive.

We still had a little way to go after the sun had set. Unfortunately, the paved road slowly turned into a mud road, a dirt road, a... field? According to the GPS, we were just a few minutes away, but we were standing in the middle of a field in complete darkness. Fortunately, a passing coachman confirmed that the place we were looking for actually existed, and finally we stood in front of a not very inviting gate with a small paper sign on it.

Then an older man with a rifle came from behind, apparently the night watchman who unlocked the gate for us. We continued along the path in darkness. Another gate, behind it stomping hooves, gleaming eyes, and... another man with a rifle. Where on earth had we ended up?!

But then the relief came: we could come in, we would have a bed, everything was fine. Phew.

After this excitement, we met the owner of the farm, who quickly told us his life story. He was recently the president of the Central American Parliament, now he is the vice president, and he has held several ministerial positions, was once a hospital owner, and now he is a part-time fruit farmer. What?!

The next morning we were served a wonderful Nicaraguan-style breakfast...

After that, we were driven around the property in a carriage, full of different animals and plants. Mango, avocado, grapefruit, moringa (the tree of life), eucalyptus, and much more.

Then we continued on a canoe, the surroundings were beautifully green and somehow a bit enchanting.

But then came the highlight of the day: Monkey Island. In the middle of the small canal is the home of a group of spider monkeys. One of them is Tyson, who made it very clear to us, as we passed by, whose territory we were on...

Finally, we said goodbye to this crazy farm with its crazy residents, but I aim to come back for the mango harvest - why not?
Then we went to Masaya to check out the market and buy a hammock for myself, which we found. Colorful, big, comfy, and practical!
After that, we headed to León, but more on that later, in the last Ass for now.
