From Fort Lauderdale to Key West

On Sunday morning, we started our long drive to Key West. According to the navigation device, it should take about 3 hours, but with all the stops, we were on the road from 10 am to 5 pm. We had breakfast at Denny's in Hollywood, where we were served by the friendliest waitress ever. The breakfast was delicious! I ordered an omelette filled with steak, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and cheese. It was served with hash browns and toast. Yummyyyyy! The next stop was at our favorite Chinese food restaurant, Panda Express, in Florida City, where we got something for dinner. It had been pouring rain up until this point. You could only see as far as the car in front of you, everything else was white-gray. Aquaplaning! Disgusting!

About an hour later, we stopped at Dunkin Donuts. Today's donut was phenomenal again! After that, we drove for another two hours and a whole 222 miles straight. The good thing was: you couldn't get lost 😁 But the route didn't meet our expectations: according to Google research, I had imagined a nicer view (more sea view) on the highway. But about 3/4 of the way, you could only see trees on both sides of the road. Only at the end of the route was the sea visible. But frequently, it smelled extremely disgusting like a sewer or something... The arrival at the 'Perry Hotel' on Shrimp Road 😁 in Stock Island, 10 minutes from the center of Key West, was more enjoyable. It is beautiful and we had a huge and modern room! I took a short rest and then we went to a few shops. Another storm came. I've never experienced so many rainy days in America!
On Monday, we slept in and went to the center of Key West around noon, where we had lunch and explored the 'main street.' But it was unbearably hot, so after three hours, we wanted to go back to the air-conditioned room and enjoy the rest of the day at the pool.
