Evening Eagle

Ketchikan is also known for its collection of totems, the largest in the world. Abandoned, old, partially decayed totem poles from Tlingit and Haida villages were copied to preserve indigenous art and the tradition of storytelling about the clans (Totem Bight and Totem Heritage Center). In addition, the old carving art has been revived, and new interpretations of totems are shown in Saxman Totem Park.

After a copious dinner at Dock 4 in the port of Ketchikan, an Bald Eagle is actually perched on the church roof vis-a-vis from 'Verny'. But by the time I fumbled the camera out of my pocket, it dashes away - presumably he hates paparazzi. But 'the fastest camera in the west' Gotcha!

The journey from Ketchikan to Wrangell took 6 hours. Fortunately, we have warm clothes with us, as the temperatures range from 22-26 degrees Celsius! Several whales and other unidentified swimming objects (USOs) crossed our path.
