Ascension Day in Berlin: Timeride, Asisi Panorama The Wall and Computerspielemuseum

Already at breakfast, we noticed that many tourists had come to Berlin over the long Ascension Day weekend. The waiting times for coffee and food kept getting longer... We also shared our table with a nice couple because there weren't enough seats for everyone.

On this day, we had planned to visit three museums for which we had already obtained tickets with time slots the day before. After having to leave Timeride with just one ticket for the next day, we thought it was wiser, even though it meant we wouldn't be as spontaneous anymore.

So first we went to 'Timeride', a virtual time travel with virtual reality glasses, where you can first hear reports from eyewitnesses and then take a virtual bus tour through divided Berlin before the reunification. The glasses and graphics were a bit unusual, but overall we enjoyed the little time travel.

Just a few steps further at Checkpoint Charlie, we then saw the huge panorama THE WALL by Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi.

On a 1:1 scale, he captured a scene from the 1980s on a 900 square meter canvas, accompanied by audio documents from that time.

Since we still had some time until the next admission time slot, we drove to the Brandenburg Gate and visited the exhibition on the European Parliament there. In addition to small virtual games about Europe (where you had to place all capital cities in the correct countries, for example), there was a lot of information and 360° films.

We continued our journey to Karl-Marx-Allee, where we took a break in a rose garden that was left over from the 2017 International Garden Exhibition.

In the café next door, we waited for our admission time slot at the Computerspiele Museum. Besides informational texts and films, there were also many exhibits of old computers and game consoles.

However, the most popular were the stations where you could try out video and computer games. The museum was well-attended and the games were occupied most of the time, giving us the chance to read the texts in peace...

In the evening, we had tickets for the show 'Stars in Concert' at the Estrel Show Theater.

So we drove to Sonnenallee and first had a meal in a pizzeria with the beautiful name 'Das Pi'.

Then we saw Robbie Williams, Madonna, Elvis, the Blues Brothers, Louis Armstrong, and Cher on stage.

The next morning, we had some time before our return journey, so we went to the Humboldt Forum again to see the exhibition 'After Nature'.

There, the university's excellence clusters were presented and there was a variety of exhibits, although the connection between them was not immediately apparent to us...

After so much culture, we went shopping at the Alexa shopping center on Alexanderplatz before heading home.
