25.01.19 - St. Kilda

Today it was damn hot! The temperatures were playing tricks! At noon it was almost 44 degrees hot and the wind blowing towards me felt like a hairdryer in my face 🙈😅

So I decided to visit the district of St. Kilda. It is very well known for Melbourne, supposedly a trendy area... I didn't really like it that much, but maybe I was in the wrong places...? Anyway, I went to the beach because it was so warm. When I arrived at the beach, the heat was gone and it was just pleasantly warm. So I went into the water a few times and then lay on the beach. Unfortunately, there was a really annoying wind.... But it was still pleasant in the sun. When the sun slowly disappeared behind clouds, it was already evening and I left to go to a well-known restaurant. Everyone raved about it and told me to go there. It's a vegan restaurant called 'lentil as anything'... There are no prices, you just pay whatever you think it's worth at the end. I think the idea is great!... The restaurant was very small and I sat down next to a Belgian woman and we both chose the tofu burger. My first tofu... The whole burger was so delicious! It was really worth the experience.

After the restaurant, I walked to the pier because you can watch penguins there. I had read on the internet that the penguins come back to the beach and find a sleeping place at sunset. There were soooo many people there waiting... Some volunteers provided information about the penguins and showed the hidden nests... Some of them were even nesting between rocks, but I couldn't take pictures of them because they were well hidden. So I sat there and waited, and waited and waited.... The wind was quite strong the whole time and got stronger as the sun disappeared... I decided to give up around 9 pm because I was already half frozen! Later I learned from another backpacker that the penguins only come around 10 pm... By that time, I would have really frozen!
