Formula 1 in Shanghai

If we're already there, we'll take that too, that's the approach. I asked around a bit in my circle of friends and quickly we were 4-5 guys. However, 2 had to cancel again because of work and family trips, but oh well...

We set off on Saturday morning and arrived just in time for the first practice session. The sound was amazing from the outside. The Shanghai Circuit is located in the west of the city and is easily accessible from Suzhou.

Formula 1 always means a folk festival and show, although the Chinese are a bit 'leaner' in terms of folk festivals.
But there was a lot of show. Damon Hill drove a few laps in his father's car, a Lotus Type 49. In those days, there was a lot more to do in the cars.

VIP guests, not us, could take a few laps in a Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini.

The People's Liberation Army ensured security on and around the stands.

During the practice session, there was a spectacular crash within our view. Daniil Kvyat lost control after the last turn before the start-finish straight and literally crashed into the barrier. The car around the cockpit 'crumbled' and the driver got out as if nothing had happened.

The subsequent qualifying was actually the most exciting part of the whole weekend.

Valtteri Bottas took pole position

On Sunday morning, we took the 'Camel Party Bus' to Shanghai. A hearty breakfast, nice people, and a few beers included.

Before the start, the usual procedure, driver parade and warm-up.

Then the start

1.5-hour race, a bit unspectacular and a predictable winner at the end
