Hong Kong

The next day, I take the escalator down to the pier. I cross over to the mainland with the Star Ferry and take the first bus of the blue line to the district of Mong Kok. A few snacks strengthen me for the stroll through narrow alleys and a vegetable and fruit market, until I hop on a bus again at a temple.

In the West Kowloon District, I wander along the waterfront to the Hong Kong Palace Museum (a gift from the People's Republic of China for the 25th anniversary of independence), then take the bus back to the starting point. The K11 is a mix of museum and shopping mall, with the green facades said to be the largest in the world. Back on Hong Kong Island, I still have the red bus line to explore the city area of the island. Endless skyscrapers, rounded corner buildings, and a circular pedestrian bridge… there is so much to see. In the evening, I take the ferry back to the mainland, but the daily light and sound show scheduled for 8:00 PM is canceled at short notice due to weather conditions.

I grab some Asian fast food and walk around a quarter before I return to the hotel with the ferry and escalator.
