An adventurous descent constantly captured by various technical equipment for posterity. Of course, we also succeed in the return journey through the water, although this time we startle a whole cavalry and their horses with our shoveling tires and lose our license plate in the water again. An eventful return journey with a small whirlwind that turns our vehicle into a sandpit.
Our next waypoints are more magnificent waterfalls like the one whose name we have forgotten ;-) or the Skógafoss. But here we realize for the first time that we are slowly becoming numb and the reserved brain cells for natural spectacles are slowly reaching their limit and want to be processed first. What on earth would we do on a world trip? So we climb countless stairs, take a few photos, but overall we are not as overwhelmed as we were initially at Dettifoss, Goddafoss, or even at Gullfoss.
But a little adventure still awaits us when we take a rather adventurous track into the hinterland. The bumping on the corrugated tracks and the numerous potholes that we cannot avoid in time and all the vibrating plastic covers that VW definitely did not install for this kind of journey hardly bother us anymore. Just when we almost stop believing that there is still "something" here, we suddenly find ourselves in an incomparable basin after a visible curve, with its extremely steeply rising walls on all sides, resembling a green version of a volcanic crater. A small cave, atmospherically staged by numerous candles, can be used here as a "dining room" - definitely one of the most illustrious accommodations in Iceland.
