On March 7th We took an Uber to the car rental company in the morning. There we took over our camper van and went straight to the supermarket to buy supplies. We then headed south.

We stopped at Pirongia to go on a hike (the Mangakara Nature Walk, ~1h).

There Henry tried out his Kraxe for the first time and was very happy with it.

We then continued to Tongariro National Park in the middle of the North Island, where we arrived in the evening.

Tongariro National Park is known for its Mount Ngauruhoe. This represented Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The next day we explored the national park and went on a hike to Taranaki Falls (~3 hours). Henry didn't like the Kraxe so much anymore 😅

Afterwards we looked at the Tawhai Falls. These also appear in the Rings trilogy in a scene in which Gollum catches a fish and are therefore nicknamed Gollum's Pool.

The following day we left early to drive to the Interislander ferry terminal in Wellington. From there we went to the South Island.
