The day starts off fresh... with a cold shower ๐ ๐ฅถ Our Eco Camp relies on solar power and it rained yesterday... so no hot water ๐
We treat ourselves to pancakes+banana and fruit salad for breakfast. After that, we'll be picked up by Ollie (who speaks English) with his Land Cruiser. Unfortunately, it has a brake problem in the first few kilometers, so we're making a stop at the workshop. Here we meet Albright (who speaks German). Both will accompany us in the next few days.
The mechanics are all very friendly and helpful. It seems to us as if the repair only cost a few euros ๐๐
Just a quick visit to the Tourlane office to drop off our passports and flight tickets, so that our suitcases can be brought to us.
The sun comes out around noon and it quickly gets warm. Our tour now takes 2...3 hours from Nairobi to the Rhino Watch Lodge. Everything is crowded towards the north, as everyone is heading home from the city on Saturdays. You can buy fruits and nuts everywhere along the roadside (and directly from the car ๐ ). And there are surprisingly many fancy bed frames on the side of the road (for sale?).
We try pineapples, oranges, mangoes, and mini bananas ๐๐๐ Mega nice.
In the hustle and bustle of traffic, a woman hits our car in reverse... Lucky, just a little panic attack ๐
The higher we go, the bumpier the road gets ๐คฃ By the way, instead of traffic lights, there are speed bumps every few hundred meters here. Otherwise, the rule is 'the stronger wins' ๐ That's how some of the cars look as well... ๐
What was supposed to be 2...3 hours turned out to be more like 4, but we arrived safely and are happy about a late lunch. Two beautiful 'mini leopards' are watching us while we eat ๐
We have a very green location and sleep in a large tent with an adjacent bathroom. A short walk to the nearby hill with some (cloudy) view before dinner. We've already made a (two-part) plan for tomorrow ๐
Stay tuned ๐ฆ๐ฆ
P.S.: Currently unable to send photos ๐ We'll keep trying ๐
