Of Caribbean dreams and oriental tales

The alarm clock rang earlier than usual. After all, we wanted to go to the island of Elafonisos today to spend the day at the beach.

However, since the navigation system first sent us along a road that initially turned into a dirt road and then suddenly became only half as wide, time suddenly became very tight. So we switched from holiday driving mode to Greek driving style - which means adding 20-30 km/h to the indicated speed limit and always overtaking in no-passing zones. Henni quickly realized that I am quite comfortable with this driving style, and so we still managed to make it to the ferry on time.

At the sandy beach, we were able to enjoy the wonderful sunshine and pleasant water temperatures, even though we searched in vain for the Caribbean beach charm advertised in the travel guide.

In the afternoon, we continued to Monemvasia - an old city originally Turkish, located on a peninsula. However, there was no sign of the bright sunshine here anymore! While we were still admiring the cloud cover below us from the mountains, suddenly we couldn't see more than a hundred meters ahead at the sea. Despite the dense fog, we ventured up to the upper town - it turned out to be worth it, because once we reached the top, the fog cleared briefly and revealed an impressive view of the city and the mountains behind it, before the sun set.
