Across the street, an American has been living for a month. I have seen him a few times on the street with his dog, but I couldn't place him. Last night, he invited the neighborhood to a party. The house is rented, nicely renovated, and has a tiny patio, just a few square meters without a roof. Jim from Michigan is very skinny, laughs a lot and too loud (maybe a result of the white wine) and thinks Donald Trump is a sick lunatic. So, pretty nice. He confided in me that initially he wanted to pretend to be Canadian because of the historically bad relations between the US and Nicaragua. That was probably a joke and not necessary at all.
Jim didn't have to worry about anything. Meat, salad, and tortillas were brought along. The women manned the grill (cooking is women's work), filled and distributed the plates, and the drink supply was taken care of by connoisseurs. Loud music was also provided.
I assume Jim is already retired and looking for a nice place for his last phase of life. He has traveled Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, etc. for the past three years, but he liked it here the best. Panama and Costa Rica are too American for him. In addition, life in Nicaragua is significantly more affordable. Many Canadians and Americans have already recognized this. Depending on where you come from, the family is only a few hours' flight away.
Jim brought his dog Rocky with him. One time he ran away and Jim searched desperately and unsuccessfully for him for hours. In the end, Rocky found his way back alone and was already waiting in front of the house. Since then, he only goes away together with his master. He probably had an unpleasant experience with the many free-roaming dogs.
As I just heard, the hardcore party people celebrated until 3 am this morning.
Temperature up to 30 degrees, sunny and no rain.
