hiking with magnificent views
we had actually never heard of the Grampians NP before. In Sydney, we met a nice couple Jule and Lorenz who only had great things to say about the Grampians.
Actually, we imagined the Grampians to be similar to the Blue Mountains but somehow it was completely different. The hiking trails are more natural and therefore much more difficult. We hiked 6 km on the first day and climbed 280 meters in altitude.
We can really say that we have hiked a lot here and also really long distances, but this was just so exhausting! But the view was more than worth it after this tough hike.
On the way back, it started raining heavily and we took shelter in a small cave. When we finally arrived back at the parking lot, we drove to the lake where we had briefly stopped on the way there.
Here we enjoyed fishing and cooking, and then we continued to our campsite.. on the way to the campsite, it started thundering and raining so heavily that we had to briefly stop at the side of the road because we couldn't see anything because of the heavy rain.
It was as if huge buckets of water were poured onto your car. The campsite itself was also quite flooded after a few hours, but luckily the ground had absorbed most of the water by the morning.
A multi-day trip to the Grampians is definitely worth it, on the second day we made our way to the Mckenzie Falls, another hiking trail that was totally worth it! In the evening, we camped at a lake and were able to see a wonderful sunset. Currently, it is getting quite cool here again, sometimes only 15 degrees during the day and 10 degrees at night.. and this is Australian summer? Of course, we have had pretty hot days recently, but the cool temperatures outweigh everything. More pictures will follow, the upload doesn't work again because of the bad internet.
