Day 9-11: Samarkand, Uzbekistan - Spring in the middle of January

പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു: 20.01.2018

After a total of 30 hours of travel from Karakol to Bishkek, with the night bus via Kazakhstan to Tashkent from where we took another bus to Samarkand, we were somewhat exhausted and above all hungry.

After withdrawing money, which can only be done here with a passport, we treated ourselves to a 3-course meal in a reputable restaurant to celebrate the day. This completely blew our budget, as we paid a total of 10€ for it.

The tenth day began with breakfast in our small but nice hostel. From here we started a walk to the Registan Square. With mouths wide open, we stood in front of the magnificent buildings and what we only knew from pictures now stretched out directly in front of us. Definitely another wow moment!

We spent some time here admiring the huge buildings before continuing on to the Shakhi-Zinda Memorial Complex. On the way there, we saw other mosques where we also made a brief stop.

However, we liked the memorial complex the best because the atmosphere here was something very special. In addition, the walls were decorated with the most beautiful tiles and mosaics, so that we were constantly amazed. Definitely a must-see for anyone who should happen to come here.

Otherwise, it can be said that the mentality here is different from Kyrgyzstan. Once again, we stand out here, which is mainly expressed by the fact that we are called "you are so beautiful" on every corner and are frequently asked if we are already married. Of course, we always answer this question with "yes" so that we can continue without being disturbed.

Generally, there is a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in Samarkand except on the main roads. German police officers would pull their hair out here. Now we continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery of this city at a sunny 17 degrees Celsius!
