After the jungle adventure in the heart of Borneo, we flew to the north to the capital of the Sabah region - Kota Kinabalu. The city is known for its nearby islands with beautiful beaches and snorkeling and diving opportunities. And of course for Mount Kinabalu - one of the highest mountains in Southeast Asia. But more on that later...
As the holidays of our two companions Daniel & Daniel are coming to an end, we decided to spend two more relaxing days on the beach.
On the first day, we visited Manukan Island. Just a few meters from the beach, there is a small reef where you can admire many fish and corals. The traces of humans can also be seen here, but you can still find a lot of underwater life in this area. There is also life on land and you can see several smaller and larger lizards walking on the beach or sunbathing on the trees, seemingly not afraid of the human beach guests.
We spent the second day on the neighboring island of Sapi. Here too, it was all about chilling, swimming, and snorkeling, although the underwater world was not as great as the day before.
The evenings in the city of Kota Kinabalu, which by the way did not really impress us and is miles away from the charm and atmosphere of Kuching, were all about seafood. This is a definite plus for us, as we love indulging in local specialties and mussels, crabs, or giant prawns are definitely part of it.
And now it's time to say goodbye. The two Daniels are flying back to Kuala Lumpur and Switzerland, and we are staying here. Because our next adventure is already waiting for us: tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday we will climb Mount Kinabalu. Whether we will make it and how we will feel afterwards (the predictions of some friends and acquaintances differ), we will let you know. See you soon!
