The alarm clock goes off at 6am! It's really early but I have to drive far today and take care of a few things along the way.
At 8am, I'm heading to Cape Reinga lighthouse. The furthest point of the trip in the early morning and then covering as many kilometers as possible towards Auckland.
I'm almost alone at the Cape and the sun is already scorching. After that, I'm continuing towards Whangarei with a stop at the gigantic Te Paki sand dunes. By 4pm, I'm tired of driving.
By chance, I pass by Uretiti Beach Camping, which is right on State Highway 1. I turn off and am excited about a great campground on the last day. Later, I'll go to the neighboring town to get rid of the waste water from the camper and refill fresh water at the dump station. I already had the gas bottle filled while refueling on the way.
At the very large Uretiti Beach campground, the VW bus is once again an attraction and I meet some very nice people because of it. But I actually have to pack, which is delaying me.
Although this is a very simple campground, there are hot showers. And they're outdoor showers. When I finally get to shower, it's already dark and I shower under the starry sky on the last day, how cool is that!
