George Town (MYS)

George Town is the largest city on the island of Penang. The city has so many contrasts - colorful, beautiful, historic, hip, lively, multicultural, and many more.

George Town is especially known for its street art - some of the artworks invite you to take a photo with them. They are real objects (to sit on) that have been incorporated - such as a scooter, swing, chairs, bicycles...

The most famous are the pictures by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic.

But there are also beautiful works by other artists.

Furthermore, there are also some historical buildings in George Town.

On the island of Penang, there is also the largest (Chinese) Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The Lok Si Temple is impressively large and well worth a visit. In addition, admission is free - only a small fee of 2 Ringgit (about 0.44 €) is required to enter the area with the pagoda - that's almost nothing and it's worth it. The area with the pagoda includes a small, beautifully landscaped garden - I found that to be the most beautiful part of the temple.

Actually, I wanted to take the cable car up to Penang Hill, but unfortunately it was closed the whole time due to maintenance work. So I left Penang without having been to the highest mountain on the island. I console myself with the fact that the view wouldn't have been so spectacular anyway, as it was slightly hazy. Besides, you also have a view of the city from the Lok Si Temple complex.
