टैग 3.6: सेंट एग्नेस - पोर्ट चैपल

Today we had to leave our accommodation again. Too bad.

The planned route was from St Agnes to Portreath with a lunch break in Porthtowan. But sometimes things don't go as planned...

The car route between Portreath and St Agnes is suboptimal, so hitchhiking was also a bit difficult. Besides, my hat went missing yesterday, we searched for it - in vain. And when we finally started walking, it started raining... The rain was (not too) heavy, but I didn't bring a proper rain jacket this year. (How did that happen?!? :-P ) My thin wind jacket plus rain cover from the backpack plus poncho, which also covers the backpack, were just enough.

We have finally arrived at the old tin mines. The chimneys of the crumbling engine houses can be seen everywhere. Very impressive. At this point, I would like to once again refer to the series POLDARK. 😍

Right at St Agnes Head, the second downpour came. Very whipping and very sideways. Within a minute, my pants were soaking wet. I didn't want to continue walking in the open field without protection. So, I quickly ran to the coastguard house and the nice man offered me the wind and rain shelter of his little house. Phew. Nevertheless, everything was wet. Tina was already ahead and completely soaked.

When the shower was over, I continued walking. And suddenly, my leg started to hurt. I had noticed it at the beginning of the day, but didn't pay much attention to it.

For the first time, St Ives was clearly visible. At the end of the next bay. With an island and a lighthouse in front. The destination of our route this year. Wonderful. And a bit sad that it will be over soon.

The old houses of Wheal Coats were getting closer. Especially the engine house of Towanroath Shaft is very impressive, as it is very close to the cliff edge. Here, water was pumped out of the shaft, part of which was below sea level.

I had to stop in Chapel Porth because my leg was hurting badly. It's the left leg, just above the ankle, where the hiking boot ends... I have no idea what it could be. Hopefully it'll be better tomorrow.

I was picked up by two nice drivers. One of them had to quickly feed his pigs on his land... 😜 He even gave me a peach from his greenhouse as a gift. 🍑

I then picked up Tina in Portreath and while waiting, I took a look at the harbor. The harbor was once very important for transporting tin to Wales and coal from Wales back to power the mines' steam engines.
