Black and white

Especially my family has complained to me because I haven't written in my blog for a long time.... So here's a short entry again!

Black and white, these words are strictly avoided in Germany when it comes to describing a person. Instead, we use expressions that seem less 'racist' to us. The latest nonsense is the term 'maximally pigmented'. In general, however, we use descriptions such as 'dark-skinned', 'colored' or 'Afro-German'.

I've never understood why it's supposed to be bad to call people black, after all, I also call myself white. But when you travel to other countries, you quickly realize that this phenomenon rarely occurs elsewhere. Neither in Africa (at least where I was), nor here in the Dominican Republic, does anyone have a problem with the term Black. On the contrary, for example, there is a girl here who everyone calls 'la negra' because she is the darkest in her house. It must be said, however, that compared to most people here, she is still very light.

On the streets, we are called 'rubia', which means 'blond'/'white', and it was no different in Africa.

I think it's good to commemorate history, but in some corners we Germans do go overboard in my opinion. However, it should be said that as a white person, I have never had to suffer from the behavior of racist people.
