'Uppsala'

[English version below]

This city north of Stockholm stands out mainly because of its funny name (at least in German we like to use the word in connection with a mishap) ;). You can reach Uppsala by train in just 40 minutes and you are not confronted with a mishap, but with a very cute university town!

Uppsala is very manageable and can be explored easily in a few hours. From the train station, you can reach the small city center in just 5 minutes. The influence of the students, who keep the city lively, is evident through many shops and restaurants.

You should definitely visit the cathedral, which is really worth seeing from the outside, but especially from the inside. It is also the largest cathedral in Scandinavia (but still small compared to the Cologne Cathedral)!

Not far from the cathedral, the castle is perched above the city, standing out with its salmon-colored tone. The castle park is also nice here.

The riverbank is a good place to relax, where there are nice seating areas everywhere.

The medieval university town Uppsala is about a 40 minutes train ride away from Stockholm. We did a day trip to this picturesque city at the Fyris River where you come along bicycles everywhere. When you arrive in the city centre you can notice the collegial influence due to its grand variety of restaurants and shops.

Of course we visited the city's main attractions. The Uppsala cathedral is the largest and tallest cathedral in all of Scandinavia (but actually don't imagine it too big...). The Uppsala castle (slott) is situated near the cathedral and dominates the city skyline. You should visit the city garden as well which is perfect for a short break.

The small town is worth a visit when you have some extra time left. :)
