We drive along the rugged coast and are on our way to St. John's, Newfoundland. Yes, there is also a St. John's in New Brunswick. This is one of the oldest cities in North America and a reason for us to go for a walk. That doesn't happen very often. We also find the parking space, which is generally intended for motorhomes, high up on the mountain at the Visitors Center. Well off the beaten track. Hiking to the town and back is on the agenda. As always, what goes down must come up. The gradients of the roads and trails here are already partially challenging. 12% is no problem, we've had up to 15% with MANNI.

So, when we arrived in the town, we ended up on the oldest street in St. John's. We admired the cathedral and the really cute colorful houses in the city. But there is no sign of nice pubs or shops. The parallel street already looks different but doesn't invite you to linger either, until we realize that they are still cleaning up at noon and we ended up on St. John's red light district. Well, another street towards the harbor and we found the center.

A small lunch snack and an iceberg beer in the Irish-Newfoundland Pub are already fun - and as I said, strolling through the shops.

The way back takes us along the harbor, where several icebreakers and large supply ships are moored for the oil platforms off the coast. We can hardly believe it, among all the "vessels" there is a German sailing ship, a two-master from Hamburg, which will start its journey home the next day - exciting. When we arrived at the car, we made ourselves comfortable and Freddy finally gets out. Then it's almost time to go home.

The next morning, we couldn't resist hiking up to Signal Hill, to Cabot Tower, from where you should have a wonderful panoramic view of the city and the harbor, if it weren't for the dense fog around us.... Well, occasionally we can see something. Still beautiful. We share a muesli bar and the last sip of water (it was before breakfast) at the top of the tower and then head back to the car. But we take a different route than up... And... that's when the hike really started 🙀 Over hill and dale, up and down to the harbor around the whole rock.... We arrived at MANNI around half past twelve at noon and had finished our walking tour 🌞

After a delicious brunch, we packed up and continued to the countryside.... Ferryland.

Best regards

Hört sie spannend an. Auf den Bildern schraubt Jörg am Manni. Ist doch hoffentlich nichts Ernstes?
