Strandby/Denmark - Part 3

Thursday, 16th July to Monday, 20th July 2020

There is not a highlight every day here, but it is a relaxed time and we have a lot of fun.

Xemena leaves us on Thursday afternoon. She continues her journey to Croatia. I don't like saying goodbye, but I guess I have to get used to it when I'm traveling.😔

On Saturday, Naoel and I go on a bike ride. We head to Skagen, once again to the north where the Baltic and North seas meet. When we arrive in the north, we walk along the long sandy beach to the point where the seas converge. An interesting spectacle. But even more interesting than the natural phenomenon is observing the people. Everyone wants to be seen in the front row of the photo. And so the crowd continues to move further into the water. A couple had their photo taken with their knees in the water. They didn't take off their shoes😅 This time, the Baltic Sea is the stormier sea, and the North Sea is very calm.

Today we manage to ride past the clouds. We only experience a light drizzle once. On the way back, we visit Rabjerg Mile, the desert of Denmark. It's incredible because today it looks completely different. The sand dunes have completely changed due to the wind that blows incessantly, sometimes more, sometimes less, across the land.

A funny experience: my shoes are by the entrance. I slip into them, but there's something in my shoe. I seem to have forgotten my socks in them... I look inside, and a toad with big eyes is staring back at me. I can't help but let out a little scream🙊 A beautiful animal. The toad leisurely hops out of my sneakers and disappears into the garden.

On Sunday morning at 8:00 o'clock, Misaki leaves. She is traveling to Holland.

On Monday, we take Belen and Koko to the train station. Now there are only six of us😔 The remaining of us continue by bike to Frederikshavn to visit the bunker facilities. They are located on a hill 82 meters high. They were built during World War II and later expanded by the Danish Navy during the Cold War. Part of it is still in use today.

On the hill, we discover many pacifiers hanging from a tree. This is a Danish tradition. When a child no longer needs their pacifier, it is hung on a pacifier tree.

At the exit of the bunker facility, we find a troll. Freely based on J.R.R. Tolkien, a fantastic creature from Middle-Earth. It has a height of 3 meters.

On the way back, we once again battle against the strong wind, but we are rewarded with a beautiful landscape and colorful flowers along the roadside.

In the evening, I take a little timeout at my favorite beach. I enjoy the peace and look out at the vast blue sea. Once again, I can let my soul rest.
