Day 22 to 27 Machu Picchu and Corona

प्रकाशित: 17.12.2023

Day 22 to Day 24

Corona has us - or rather me - really great at 3500 meters above sea level. Cough, knockout, breathing problems. On day 20 there was a slight scratchy sensation in my throat during the trip. Day 21 - on Sunday it was really a fight. In the evening we took food to the room and found that we had a fever of 39. Fuck. Maybe it's altitude sickness after all. Just wait a day. Doesn `t get better. Damn, we already booked Machu Picchu for Tuesday. How am I supposed to pack it? I can hardly keep my eyes open. Luckily, the call from the travel agency came on Monday. We have to reschedule - there is a landslide on the road due to the heavy rain. The road is closed indefinitely. (We wanted to hike 10km and then spend the night in Aguas Calientes). The travel agency then offered us to switch to the train and go on a one-day trip - getting on the train and getting off as relaxed as pensioners. Came to us right on time. Of course the price wasn't what we had imagined. 130 euros per person more. But Thursday and two more days of rest. Fits. We do so.

Tuesday everything was even worse than the previous days. The pharmacy was then able to tell us it was Covid - not altitude sickness. Running. Quarantine regulations? No, it does not exist. We all walk around with it... oh well. Well then...

Day 25

Off to Machu Picchu.

Get up at 3:00

Be at the pick-up point at 4.30.

Tired and exhausted, Freddy dragged himself to the tour company. Oxygen value well below 90. Dressed warmly. Luckily it's not raining this morning.

After almost 2 hours by bus we arrived at the train station.

Get on the train quickly. Wow, it's empty. Cool. We relaxed and drove almost 2 hours to Aguas Calientes. We had free time there until 12 p.m. Well, what do you want to do there? Nothing going on here. It also helped me relax. So we just went for a relaxed breakfast. Our guide was waiting at the pickup point at 11:30am. A great guy. Somewhere we've been on his Insta account 100 times now :D

But the sad part of the story is that it started to rain heavily. We were thoroughly washed for an hour. Afterwards we were rewarded with great weather and were able to follow the guide's stories and simply enjoy 3 hours of Machu Pichhu. Just look at the pictures of what people created back then oO

That was enough. I was completely fucked. There were more steps than expected and Corona thought it would keep me further down.

But we managed it. In the end, great weather and a great day at this great wonder of the world!

The return trip was planned for 7 p.m. by train. 🚆

But the private train had problems with the tracks, so everything was postponed by 90 minutes *vomits* I just want to go to bed.

It finally started at 8:30 p.m. The train driver played Schumi and drove the thing home. But so quickly that it was scary. The train jumped up and down.

10:15 p.m. on the bus home. Departure 😀

Wouldn't that be a problem. When I was half asleep, I only heard a metallic sound... oh yeah... it certainly can't be important, something like that. We drove on for 20 minutes... Then the sobering news. We cannot guarantee your safety. We have to wait for another bus...

We finally got to the hotel at 1:10 a.m. *chokes*

Day 26

Just do nothing. Get fit and recover from the previous strenuous day.

Day 27 continues to Puno

Things are slowly getting better. Slight cough and just a bit of a knockout.

8 hour journey by bus. Come on. Hopefully we can survive the 3800 meter altitude from oO even with a cold. It's not supposed to be that good, you read again and again on the internet. But hey. We are there. I'm finally feeling well, except I'm still out of breath. Unfortunately, Laura now has a headache. Hopefully they won't be there in the morning.

So a busy week ends. We really don't need it a second time.

A big thank you goes to Miriam from the PV Travel Agency. Such a loving lady. Every day she asked me how I was doing and whether she should send a doctor to the hotel or come to us and then go to the hospital with us. Really every day. Mega! Thanks!!!

A huge thank you goes to the hotel (not). A warm shower was so desirable. But hey. In Puno there is finally a warm shower again. It was horror! Also the cold and noise in the room!

So now you have a nice 3rd Advent ❤️

Freddy and Laura (more like Freddy, Laura is in bed with a headache, I wish her nice dreams and a speedy recovery 😂)
