Farewell to Nova Scotia

प्रकाशित: 21.08.2018

Unfortunately, the day has come for us to leave Nova Scotia.

Because everything has an end, only the sausage has two...

From the house of our wonderful hosts Cindi and Ron, it took us seven minutes to get to the ferry. There we had to wait at the checkpoint for about twenty minutes until we were admitted into the belly of the catamaran "The CAT".

Since obviously all booked passengers were very punctual, the ferry departed at eight o'clock instead of the planned half past eight. We didn't mind, then we're half an hour earlier. The ferry raced towards Maine at 68 km/h.

Although the sea was very calm, it swayed noticeably back and forth, and some guests were a little green in the face and had stars and stripes before their eyes...

The crossing was spectacular. I was standing at the railing with an American woman when suddenly a shark appeared next to the ship and disappeared again. I immediately called Nicole over, and after a few minutes, two sharks appeared and looked at us with their mouths wide open. The American woman screamed like crazy and kept shouting "Oh my God, a shark, a shark". One of the crew members of the ferry even thought that someone had been sacrificed and thrown overboard. Nicole had to calm him down again. Shortly thereafter, a huge shark appeared, swimming just under the water's surface in the opposite direction of the ship. After this sighting, I ran to our seats to get the camera with the macro zoom. And from that point on, we saw... nothing. Except water.

And when you stand there for hours and stare at the water, you see the most absurd things.

I'm sure I saw a big white whale with a man with a chin beard and a wooden leg tied to its side, waving at me.

By the way, I had an interesting discussion with the American woman about how to tell the different shark species apart. I told her that you can recognize the white sharks by the fact that they always have a surfer's leg or arm in their mouth. I'm afraid she believed me...

Nicole, by the way, was seized by ambition and wanted to take a picture of a shark, and what can I say: she succeeded!!!

Our next stop was Salem.

Not the Salem that Stephen King burned down. Also not the Salem where three centuries ago red-haired women with an affinity for black cats were transformed into a different state of matter.

No, Salem's here are as abundant as sand on the sea. Our Salem distinguishes itself by being on the way to the mecca of outlet stores in New England, Wrentham! Otherwise, it has nothing special to offer...

... except! A restaurant of the chain "99", where we ate deliciously and inexpensively.

In the morning, we're going shopping and then off to Cape Cod!!!
