Hello from St. Lucia and Merry Christmas everybody!
After yesterday morning we took a beautiful walk on the Grand Anse Beach in Grenada (by the way: Grinäida), we had to check out already in the afternoon from our first stop. At a beach bar we got a super delicious lunch with Caribbean rhythms and Christmas music in the background. We had the obligatory Caribbeer, a sandwich with grilled I-don't-know-what-vegetables and pesto, Cassava Fries (that's cassava a la French fries, as Google told us), Onion Rings made from giant onions, and a cheese-covered chicken sandwich. You can guess who had what :-D
We were allowed to spend the afternoon until departure at the pool of our hotel. Then we took a taxi back to the airport, where we unfortunately had to witness that the flight to New York had to be canceled due to a defective sensor, and as a result, many people could not travel to their families on Christmas Eve. But everything went more than punctual and super fast for us, so that we even got stressed to be able to complete the immigration papers during the short flight. In St. Lucia, Marius was waiting for us with a sign that should roughly have our last name on it. He drove us comfortably and safely for one and a half hours to the north of the island to our accommodation. Besides good reggae beats, to which he sang along pretty well, he told us a lot about his life and the island and was so kind to drop us off at a supermarket and wait for us, because here too is a public holiday on December 25th and - typically American - since today is Sunday, the holiday will be made up on Monday. Without the good Marius, we wouldn't have had any food for two days.
When we arrived at the apartments, our landlord Keith warmly welcomed us, showed us our pretty apartment and then took us next door, where his son recently opened a restaurant. What is very practical is that Keith understands German, as he was married to a German for a long time. His son can therefore speak perfect German - great for us. After a few anecdotes and a Piton (that's the beer in St. Lucia - also very good), we fell pretty tired into bed.
