Between the Mayan city of Calakmul and Guatemala, there is nothing but a few hundred kilometers of jungle. But the journey to Calakmul was not easy. For 60 kilometers, we drove on a narrow road with hundreds of potholes, deeper into the jungle. The city of Calakmul must have been huge. We could easily wander around for several hours in the restored area alone and still not see everything. The view over the endless expanse of the jungle from one of the pyramids was particularly beautiful.
