Sodelle (-jeder Schwabe, immer).
It's time - our last week in ísafjörður is coming up before we go on a road trip around Iceland (Ring Road). This week our home Isafjörður showed itself from its best side once again, it really feels like 'summer', it's quite pleasantly 'warm' (=7°C):
The week started with a sunny Monday, April 26, 2021, with little wind, so we used our overtime and took half the day off (you don't have to arrange that here, you just do it when the weather is good - imagine that in Germany). After already visiting Dynjandi twice in bad weather, we decided to make a third attempt and were not disappointed. We had the waterfall to ourselves and couldn't stop marveling. This waterfall is simply incredibly beautiful.
Since it was only 2pm, we continued driving to the most beautiful hot pool in the Westfjords... I don't think we need to say much about it, the pictures speak for themselves:
The drive there was once again an adventure in itself. The roads with their unpredictable potholes, along high cliffs or under a huge mountain - nothing is spared here. On the way there, we saw a camper stuck in the mud - remember: never drive into a side street without all-wheel drive, especially not in the Westfjords. However, the young couple made it out safely again.
We could watch the northern lights one last time from our living room. A real fireworks display in the sky that we enjoyed once again... we probably won't see them again so quickly.
The three months have passed incredibly quickly, it feels like we've only been here for a few weeks and we've settled in very well. We already miss our Isafjördur, the students, and our colleagues... life here was uncomplicatedly warm-hearted, and we are grateful for the unforgettable experiences, the people we had the pleasure to meet, and above all, we are grateful that we were partially able to forget about 'Corona' here. We will always look back on our internship in ísafjörður with a smile.
A special greeting goes out to Jamie Fletcher today, who translated our blog and complained that he was not mentioned by name - Jamie, we will miss you! Take care of yourself :)
Takk fyrir! (=Thank you very much)
For those who are now thinking 'Oh, then the Franzis will be back in the Ländle (Swabian dialect for home) soon' - nope. We are on vacation now and enjoying the Icelandic nature to the fullest.
Bless and see you!
