Day 11: Villach-Obertauern

प्रकाशित: 07.09.2022

Greetings!

After having to cancel the Google Maps adventure tour in the morning due to an impossible route, I took a little detour. That's one of the reasons why I arrived at the hotel at 7:30 p.m.

I think Google Maps should offer that as a premium service soon. Because here you really experience something on your tours! Compared to this, white water rafting is a children's playground slide!

In the meantime, after being overtaken by all the motorcycle gangs in the country, I slowly started to think I had ended up in the predator enclosure. The noise was the closest thing to it!
And then there were also the e-bike hooligan seniors. It's not like they all drive at the same speed everywhere, whether it's sand, beach, wall, land or uphill, downhill, gravel, stone or asphalt. You are always overtaken by someone, without any consideration for the consequences. They don't care! Especially not about the brakes.

After the break, which was only at 3 p.m. because I still had only 800 meters of altitude and 45 kilometers to go, I had to hurry. It's a pity that there were 2x5 km (+500 meters of altitude) mountains. It was truly insane! Fortunately, I was able to pray just before the bottom!

First, I reached a speed record of 71 km/h during the descent. Then I rode over 2100 meters of altitude to the finish. A number that I probably won't willingly reach again so quickly.

And when I finally arrived, not only was there dead silence in the village, all the restaurants were already closed. Later it turned out that the village is a ski Schlager mecca. Fortunately, I was there in September! Kindly, I was still served a schnitzel with salad in the house. And then I was celebrated in the guesthouse as if I had conquered Mount Everest. On a unicycle! Unfortunately, the fans were all 70+, but that's what the rockstar life is like as a cyclist. You take what you can get.

Tomorrow I'll go down 1500 meters to Salzburg. Hopefully I'll arrive no later than 3 p.m. so that I can still see something. What's exciting is that according to Google, I'm supposed to push my bike down the mountain for 11 km. Apart from the fact that this is physically impossible (to push a bike downhill with a 10% gradient), I won't let anyone pass me while riding. Because going downhill, I'm flash.

Goodbye

Your Florian
