Day 18: New Delhi, India - Feeling like a VIP for a day

प्रकाशित: 29.01.2018

For the 18th day, we had arranged a driver for our sightseeing tour. At first glance, it may sound decadent and not like a backpacker trip. But on the one hand, we only needed €10 per person and on the other hand, it is also quite dangerous to simply get into any taxi in India without caution. We often hear stories of backpackers who trusted people and ended up being robbed somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Of course, we wanted to avoid that as much as possible, and since taking tuk-tuks wouldn't have been any cheaper, the car was the best choice.

So, first of all, we began looking for something to eat. Today, our resolution was to only have typical Indian cuisine. Our driver made a recommendation, which we followed. Let's just say - the Indian breakfast was quite hearty and delicious!

Feeling energized and motivated, we then proceeded to visit several attractions:

1. Lotus Temple

The temple is designed by the same architect as the Sydney Opera House. It is a place where people of all religions or backgrounds come together peacefully to pray or meditate.

2. Lodhi Garden

3. Indira Gandhi Memorial

4. Rickshaw ride through Old Delhi

5. Red Fort

Here, the celebration from the previous days continued. Crowds of people watched traditional dances, ate from the variety of food stalls, and sat together in the sun, chatting away. Once again, we stood out as Europeans and were constantly asked for photos - just like real VIPs.

We decided to head back towards the hostel, from where we continued exploring our area.

6. Main Bazar and Dinner
